The trauma of the Civil War produced a tremendous amount of music as the nation mourned and sought relief from the death of over 600,000 Americans. Songs about soldiers’ lives, domestic scenes, minstrel traditions and the fight to end slavery give us insight into what it was really like to live during that time. Performing on hammered dulcimer, button accordion, harmonica and banjo, Thomas Jolin shares Lincoln and Liberty, Battle Cry of Freedom, No More Auction Block and more. He also discusses the origins of the songs and the instruments.
Audience participation is encouraged. This presentation is a Program of the Pennsylvania Humanities Council supported in part by National Endowment for the Humanities. The PHC, a nonprofit organization, inspires individuals to enjoy and share a life of learning.

So Much For That

Review
Oh, this book....it redeemed itself on page 380 or so, any book that needs that many pages to be interesting is a real problem! They are about ten main characters and ten people who are stereotypes, some of them just awful, horrible people!. They are just lousy people, almost all of them, and I almost didn't finish it. The ending was the most interesting part of the book, which may bump it up to a 2.5 stars. But, barely. I have been reading books that I have on my shelves, this one was a gift. You can never tell a book from its cover or its dust jacket description....it seemed like such a good idea!  Click here to see if this book is in our catalog!

This book is full of amazing information. I have learned and received so much in skills to be able to apply to my marriage and even just relationships in general. I have read many self help style books and never have read one quite like this!! Not only does it incorporate the Bible but in a way that is so very understandable and applicable. I recommend this book to everyone married or not!!!  Click here to see if this book is in our catalog!

The Invention of Wings
Author
Sue Monk Kidd
Review
I have read many books about slavery and slaves but this historical fiction was one of the most engaging books I've read in a long time. The relationship between Sarah and Hetty told in alternating first person was captivating. Plus, I learned things about the Quakers, abolitionist and woman's suffrage movements that I didn't know before. HIGHLY recommend this book. Was sad when I finished it!   Click here to see if this book is in our catalog!
