Travel back in time to the days when the Rat Pack ruled the night, as Dave DeLuca performs his one-man tribute to the swingin' sounds of the iconic Las Vegas trio - Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Frank Sinatra. Dave's show the Rat Pack Flashback features classic songs from the Great American Songbook, such as "Ain't That A Kick In The Head", "That Old Black Magic", and "Summer Wind", all sung in the style of the men who made them famous - the Rat Pack!

A lifelong New Jersey native, Dave DeLuca has been a professional musician since 1977. After several stints playing guitar and bass and singing in several rock and punk groups, he switched gears and became a jazz/pop singer. In 2011 Dave beat out several hundred hopefuls and won a starring role in the Count Basie Theatre's annual Sinatra Birthday Bash, where he was accompanied by the Red Bank Jazz Orchestra led by Maestro Joe Muccioli.

Hole in My Life
Author
Jack Gantos
Review
You wouldn't expect a Young Adult author and Newbery Medalist to be incarcerated for smuggling drugs in his 20s but Gantos describes the events that led to his sailing from the Virgin Islands to New York City with hashish, his life in prison, and the epiphany he gained that ultimately freed him to become the writer he so desperately wanted to be. Gantos writes with clarity and even wit about his motivation, his angst, his soul-searching, prison life, and the turning point in prison that helped him realize the value of his childhood and what would become for him his life's work. A must-read, fast-paced, smooth, and revealing.  Click here to see if this book is in our catalog!

Return to Willow Lake
Author
Susan Wiggs
Review
You'd think this is going to be Sonnet's story--her relationship with a fellow with whom she grew up--Zach Alger. Although written in multiple viepoints, the story is much more about Sonnet's mother Nina and her struggle with breast cancer. It begs the question whether Wiggs's novel is bibliotherapy, autobiographical, or coincidentally about women's issues. Characters are strong and all connected in the story line, but the background information about breast cancer gets a little bit heavy-handed. Jezebel, though, is a much stronger personality in the story--and someone you'll enjoy meeting in this audio presentation.  Click here to see if this book is in our catalog!

A linear storyline with some interesting twists at the end. And a very heartfelt protagonist who you'll no doubt be pulling for along the way.  Click here to see if this book is in our catalog!

Cannot say enough good things about this memoir and tribute to motherhood. I enjoyed the author's voice. Her perspective and reflective view on motherhood is endearing and the story is entertaining as well. It was a fast read and would make a great summer beach book.  Click here to see if this book is in our catalog!
